| Well, I'm sitting here in wonderful NH waiting for hubby to come back from his morning walk. I haven't checked this Xanga blog since February. I got stuck on Facebook and haven't been back since. Anyway, Xanga has changed a lot since I was last on...it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to post. I am SO NOT high-tech. Anyway, the lake is cool but very swimmable (75-ish), the crowds are LOW (high gas prices?), the weather has been perfect...and I finally have a little color in my face. We spent the weekend with C&V - I love those kids so much - right now they are moving in to their new apartment in Cincinnati (C calls it "Nati"). B&C arrived in Canada last night. They are attending a wedding of C's friend on Saturday, then they will motor on down here to NH and spend our 2nd week with us! Yippee! Kids (young or old) make vacation fun! I love these kids too and can't wait to spend a whole week with them (24/7). Following a surgery to repair my left knee in March, the knee healed in a bent position. It was suggested to me to have partial knee replacement. A second opinion from a prestigious medical group also verified replacement (maybe partial- maybe total) of the left knee. I almost left the decision at that when some wonderful friends highly suggested another group of doctors in Philadelphia. BINGO! This new doctor is quite confident he can fix my knee arthroscopically! I'm already scheduled for August 19! I SO want to walk again! My gait right now is similar to that of the characters from "Planet of the Apes"--not only does my left knee hurt, but my right hip is taking a beating. You don't realize how wonderful it is to just WALK until you can't do it anymore. See, Lord, maybe I HAVE learned my lesson. Well, excuse me while I get back to floating on the lake, eating lobster, photographing flowers and wildlife, and doing a little shopping (hobbling slows me down, but doesn't stop me--haha). | | |
| // '); // ]]> '24' Fans Must Wait Until Jan. 2009 2 hours ago // NEW YORK — Fans of the Fox drama "24" will have to wait until next January to see Jack Bauer again, this television season's most prominent casualty of the Hollywood writers strike. The network has committed to air a full season on consecutive weeks, and had been planning to start last month. But if it had started airing new episodes soon, the season finale would not have taken place until the summer, when TV networks rarely show their high-profile programs. Even though eight episodes for this season had already been filmed before the beginning of the writers strike, producers would have had to ramp up production soon to complete the season. A January 2009 start seemed the best way to comply with viewers' wishes that a season's episodes run without interruption to conclusion, Fox said on Thursday. | | |
| This will be a brief update since I am typing from #1's laptop. I remember when this was the coolest thing--laptop) now it's like typing on a toy. I miss my computer. Maybe I should update backward chronologically. 1. The computer died. Maybe now when I tell "someone" that the computer is clicking and making other weird noises, he will call our magic computer guy before it dies. Also, that same "someone" is regretting not having opened the flash drive I got him for Christmas 2006. Well, let's just say, I have a lot of typing to do in the next few weeks (session and HMA stuff). Thankfully, my high tech friends encouraged me to join Snapfish so all of my important photos were not stored on my hard-drive. 2. Another broken item...my knee. My good knee is now my bad knee. I was doing one of those really strenuous activities last week - you know, going down the stairs, when I heard a loud pop. The pain was intense enough to almost make me black out. That subsided to a dull ache which I still have but am able to get around in short spurts. Dr. saw a chunk of bone broken off and sitting where it should not be via x-ray. MRI results will be read this Wed. 3. #2 and V successfully moved from NC to NH greeted by a foot of snow on his 1st day of work up there. Their apt is in an old renovated Opera House and they think it's really cool. Hopefully I will get to see it if my potential surgery doesn't foil plans. They live 0.9 miles from the Manchester OPC church (totally unplanned by them). How cool is that? 4. #1 and C celebrated their 1st anniversary! Yeah, I can't believe it's been a year either. We ate the cake top on 1/6/08 - and it was actually pretty good!! I remember eating our cake top on our 1st anniversary--it tasted like cardboard! 5. Christmas was fabulous this year! All "4" of my kids were with us on Christmas Day! Only the Lord knows how many times that will happen in the future. Christmas Eve was a blast with 48 of the bestest friends and family at the Union Lake Sailing Club for our annual CE Bash. Tenth Pres again was the highlight of the day putting our focus on the worship of our Lord and Savior. 6. (This should really be 5.a.) the really nifty Christmas gift of a Belgian Waffle Maker that B gave me for Christmas broke, and I had to sent it to CONNECTICUT for repair/replacement. Every day I anxiously wait for the mailman to see if it has returned like a kid waiting for their blankie in the dryer. Well, those are the highlights. Pics and stuff will follow when the NEW computer arrives. I wonder how much other important stuff I lost in the meltdown...well, only time will tell. | | |
| I never pictured retirement being SO busy. My parents used to sit around saying, "What would YOU like to do today". And then maybe they'd go shopping, or take a drive along the river. I guess that was retirement of the 20th century. Puppy: Does anyone (my age) remember the cartoon character WALLY GATOR? Well...I've nicknamed the new puppy Molly Gator after that character. You'll see me sitting in church with puppy scratches all over my nose. I guess you could call them puppy kisses. The 5.2 lb puppy we brought home a month ago has more than doubled in size. In 3 weeks (from 1st vet visit to 2nd vet visit) she gained 6 pounds! Instead of the cockapoo we thought we got, I think she's a cockabernard! Ags - I think she could keep Wyatt occupied! #1: Continues to stop by on a regular basis from her teaching job just down the street. This 1st year of teaching has been really hard on her. She's a new wife, new homemaker and new teacher--the triple whammy. We're proud that she's been staying on top of everything, but she's lost 20 pounds since September (some of it on purpose, some of it b/c of all the above). The Lord continues to sustain her, and mom and dad keep giving attagirls. #2: Has been reunited with his wife (her grandmother passed away and she spent a week and a half back home and then in Ohio...they missed their 1st Thanksgiving together, their 1-month anniversary (lunaversary) and her birthday). He just got his new re-assignment to Hookset, NH - his 1st choice! New Hampshire in January...hmmm I wonder if there will be any snow for skiing? This town is about 45 minutes south of where we have vacationed for 15 years or so - which is nice b/c we know a few ppl in the area to give them advice on where to rent, shop and find their way around. One of our vacation family is fire chief in a town nearby and another is a skiing buddy (water AND snow). God has been good to provide ppl we know in every location this kid has been in. There are NO coincidences! New phones: B's cell phone got smushed by a car...it still worked, but would cost more to repair than to replace. My 5-year old cell (dinosaur) was the conversation piece at the VW store! Anyway we just wanted PHONES, not cameras, not iPods, no games, etc. To make a long story short, we got phones called GLEAM...very high tech - camera, games, bluetooth, music, e-mail, voice-activated commands...everything but a keyboard. I'm too old for all this stuff....I hope I can make a phone call with it. Activity for the day: dragging out that red & green stuff from the basement again. If I just toss the stuff around like I'm sprinking pixie dust, will it fall into the right places? | | |
